Characterization of Carbonate and Sandstone Reservoirs for Exploration & Development

March 4 - 8, 2018

Instructor : M. DARWISH, Ph.D.

Geological Supervisors, exploration and development geologists, sedimentologists, petrophysicists and geophysicists.

The course aims at giving fundamental knowledge about the sedimentology and geochemistry of carbonate reservoirs. Spatial and temporal distribution of carbonate facies and their depositional environments. Diagenetic alteration processes occurring during the transformation of carbonate components into limestone and dolostone. Special emphasis will be made on understanding and predicting the impact of these alteration processes on reservoir quality evolution of carbonates during basin evolution as well as on the role of dolomitization in reservoir evolution.

  • Scale of investigations.
  • Depositional systems of clastics and carbonates.
  • Controlling parameters for deposition.
  • Non-Marine Depositional Systems
  • Shallow Marine Depositional Systems.
  • Open Marine and Deep Marine depositional systems
  • Depositional Systems within a sequence stratigraphy framework.
  • Sea Level changes and sequence stratigraphy, accommodation, tectonics VS. eustacy.
  • Diagenetic finger prints, siliciclastics and carbonates.
  • Sedimentary rock properties important to model-building.
  • Geologic control on petrophysical parameters and fluid types.
  • Reservoir rock types, function and characterization.

The Five days will be held at Holiday Inn maadi (formerly Sofitel Hotel), in Cairo.

The cost is inclusive of course manual and/or guidebook, Lunch and beverages in Holiday Inn Maadi.

DR. M. DARWISH has obtained his B.Sc. in 1968 from Cairo University and Ph.D. in 1979 from Bucharest University. He is EREX Consultant for Sedimentology and Professor in Cairo University for Sedimentology and Petroleum Geology. During the last fifteen years, Dr. Darwish has offered appreciated consulting services on sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy for the oil companies in Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Gulf area.
